A few years ago, Warsaw authorities and the Polish national railway network PKP were presented with a wonderful opportunity to have spanking brand new railway station which would link in with a shopping centre on vacant land directly to the north. This would have been good news also for the developers who would have been able to profit from an unprecedented amount of foot fall. So there would have been winners all round.
Things did not turn out like that. The shopping centre, Zloty Tarasy, got built but it does not benefit from the footfall of the railway station which in any case now will have to be rebuilt at the cost of the either the city or the PKP - but either way by the taxpayers.
A lost opportunity that everyone seems to have missed:
